5 technician insights for the Samsung DV45M5500 Series Dryers (2024)

Blower impeller blockage can cause dryer to run briefly then stop

If the dryer runs for a few minutes then stops, in addition to low voltage, check the blower impeller for blockage. Foreign material trapped in the blower housing can restrict airflow, cause rapid overheating, and trigger the safety thermostat to shut down the dryer. Also check the motor actuator (centrifugal switch).

Check thermostats with power unplugged -- resistance should be 0 Ohm

When troubleshooting the drum-not-working or clothes-not-dried symptoms, check thermostat resistance with power unplugged. Normal resistance should be 0 Ohm (essentially a closed circuit). If the thermostat reads anything other than near-zero with power disconnected, it has tripped or failed and needs replacement. Always investigate the root cause (vent restriction, lint buildup) before simply replacing the thermostat.

Dropped screws recovery through duct exhaust hole

If screws for a power cord or other small parts are dropped into the dryer during service, after removing the Duct Exhaust, you can retrieve them through the hole. This saves significant disassembly time compared to removing the drum to retrieve dropped hardware.

DUAL vs SINGLE heater element testing

This dryer may have a DUAL or SINGLE heater configuration. For DUAL heater: test PIN 2-3 for 13Ohm and PIN 1-2 for 34Ohm. For SINGLE heater: test PIN 1-3 for 10Ohm. One element on a dual heater can fail while the other works, resulting in reduced heating (not no heating). The 'clothes not dried' flowchart checks heater coil resistance of about 10Ohm.
