Restricted vent system — the #1 cause of heating errors
A restricted exhaust vent system is the most common root cause of overheating errors (tC, tC5, HC). Before replacing any heating components (thermistor, thermostat, heater), always check the vent system first. Common restrictions include: too-long duct runs, too many elbows, flex ductwork, outside hood damper stuck closed, or lint accumulation in the duct. The 'clothes not dried' diagnostic flowchart starts with vent check for this reason.
Three thermostats to check for no-heat conditions
Unlike simpler dryers with two thermostats, this model has THREE thermostats: Thermostat 1 (White/Yellow wire, Hi-Limit 85C/25A thermal cut-off), Thermostat 2 (Blue/Black wire, cycling), and Thermostat 3 (Red/Black wire). All three must read < 1Ohm for proper heating. If any reads infinity, it must be replaced.
Dual vs Single heater element configurations
This manual covers models with both DUAL and SINGLE heater elements. DUAL heater: 13Ohm between PIN 2-3, 34Ohm between PIN 1-2. SINGLE heater: 10Ohm between PIN 1-3. The 'clothes not dried' diagnostic flowchart references approximately 10Ohm, which corresponds to the single element configuration. Always verify which heater type is installed before testing.
