5 technician insights for the Samsung DVE60M9900 Series Dryers (2024)

Abnormal noise diagnosis - not everything needs repair

Several noises are normal during dryer operation. Importantly, heater heat wire vibration noise is explicitly stated as NORMAL and does not require repair. However, thumping (check rollers), scraping (check felt seal or front bearings), roaring (blower wheel rubbing or bad motor bearings), and squealing (sticky or frayed belt) all indicate real problems. Whistling from the door seal area means the seal needs reassembly.

Blower fan debris causes noise that mimics motor failure

Noise from the motor area can be caused by debris (lint, small objects) stuck on the blower fan wings, creating an imbalance. Remove any alien particles from the fan and check that the fan nut is properly tightened. Also check idler bracket bending and bracket screw. This is a different problem from blower housing rubbing and does not require fan replacement if the fan itself is undamaged.

Blower fan imbalance from debris causes vibration

Noise from the motor area can be caused by debris (lint, small objects) stuck on the blower fan wings, creating an imbalance. Remove any foreign particles from the fan and check that the fan nut is properly tightened. The manual specifically calls out 'alien particles on the wings of the fan' as a cause of unbalanced rotation noise.

Gas valve coil weakness causes intermittent flame loss

Gas models

If the gas ignites normally but the flame goes out after a short while, check for a weak gas valve coil that may open when stressed by higher temperatures. Also check the radiant sensor contacts for opening prematurely, weak Hi-Limit thermostat, poor venting, and bad drum seals. This intermittent issue is harder to diagnose than a complete no-heat condition because it only manifests during operation.
