Error Code hE

Your dryer isn't heating properly or is overheating

Critical

Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue

Also displayed as: hE

What This Means

Restricted vent system causing excessive heat buildup; Thermistor resistance out of range; Heater malfunction or open element; Thermostat failure (tripped or open)

What actually causes this:

Most often caused by a clogged exhaust vent that traps hot air inside the dryer, or the heating element has burned out.

First Thing to Check

Check your exhaust vent — disconnect it from the back of the dryer and look for lint buildup inside.

How to Fix

  1. 1

    1. Check exhaust vent system for restrictions or blockages

  2. 2

    2. Measure cycling thermistor 1 resistance: should be 10KOhm at 25C (77F)

  3. 3

    3. Check thermostat 1 resistance: should be < 1Ohm (infinity means replace) — 85C 25A thermal cut-off

  4. 4

    4. Check thermostat 2 resistance: should be < 1Ohm (infinity means replace)

  5. 5

    5. Check thermostat 3 resistance: should be < 1Ohm (infinity means replace)

  6. 6

    6. Check heater resistance: 13Ohm between PIN 2-3, 34Ohm between PIN 1-2 (electric model)

  7. 7

    7. If resistance is infinity on heater, replace heater assembly

  8. 8

    8. For gas model: check radiant sensor, igniter, gas valve, and hi-limit thermostat
