What This Means

Faulty PCB; Faulty thermistor; Restricted vent system causing excessive heat buildup; Heater malfunction; Thermostat failure

What actually causes this:

Most often caused by a clogged exhaust vent that traps hot air inside the dryer, or the heating element has burned out.

First Thing to Check

Check your exhaust vent — disconnect it from the back of the dryer and look for lint buildup inside.

How to Fix

    1. Check the PCB and thermistor

  2. 2

    2. Check exhaust vent system for restrictions or blockages

  3. 3

    3. Measure thermistor resistance: should be 10K ohm at 25 deg C (77 deg F)

  4. 4

    4. Check thermostat resistance: should be < 1 ohm (infinity means replace)

  5. 5

    5. Check heater resistance values per component testing section

  6. 6

    6. For gas models, check gas valve, igniter, and flame sensor
