Water Valve Control and Ice Maker Reliability
R7 error (ice maker function failure after 3 attempts) is usually NOT the ice maker itself - it's the water valve not supplying water on fill cycle. The ice maker motor tries to refill but no water arrives, so it fails. Check water supply pressure first (should be 20-120 PSI). Next, listen for solenoid clicking sound during ice maker fill cycle - if no click, valve solenoid is dead. If you hear click but no water flows, valve outlet is clogged or water line is blocked/frozen. Always verify water reaches ice maker valve before condemning ice maker assembly. The actual ice maker motor rarely fails unless water freezes inside during failed defrost.
