Door Alignment and Seal Importance
Misaligned doors cause enormous compressor stress: cold air leaks out, compressor runs constantly, temperatures can't be maintained, and energy consumption doubles. Most refrigerators have adjustable hinges. Before diagnosing cooling problems, verify door alignment: (1) Check if door closes evenly and firmly, (2) Feel around door perimeter for air leaks, (3) Test seal with dollar bill — should be slightly difficult to pull out. If door won't close flush or seal is worn, adjust hinges or replace gasket. Fixing a misaligned door can eliminate 50% of compressor runtime and most temperature issues.
