6 technician insights for the this appliance
Water Whitening and Alkaline Filter
Water looks cloudy/milky when first dispensed because pressure drops and oxygen bubbles form. This is completely normal and clears in seconds - don't assume filter is leaking. Alkaline filter raises pH and removes chlorine. Replace every 6 months or more frequently in hard water areas.
Freezer Fan Icing Causes
Freezer fan icing is almost always caused by restricted fresh food evaporator airflow blocking return air path, not the fan itself. When FF evaporator gets blocked by frost buildup or a fallen item, return air backs up through the FZ damper and freezes the FZ fan. Always check fresh food compartment first for airflow blockage before replacing freezer fan.
Forced Defrosting Stops Current Cooling Operation
When forced defrosting (Fd) is initiated via test mode, any cooling operation is immediately stopped and the defrosting cycle takes over. Forced defrosting will continue until manually stopped. This is useful for emergency moisture or frost removal but should only be used when necessary. Normal automatic defrosting occurs 2-3 times daily in standard operation.
Refrigerant charging and system evacuation requirements
The refrigeration system comes pre-charged with exactly 160g (5.64 oz) of R-134a refrigerant. If the system must be opened for any repair, the refrigerant must be properly recovered and the system evacuated to a vacuum before any component replacement. The system cannot simply be 'topped off' — it must be completely evacuated and recharged to the exact specified amount. Only EPA-certified technicians should perform refrigerant handling.
