5 technician insights for the Samsung WF42H5200A Series Washers (2014)
Diaphragm removal must go slowly in one direction to avoid tearing
When removing the Wire-Diaphragm with long-nose pliers, work slowly in one direction around the seal. Going too fast or pulling in multiple directions can tear the diaphragm rubber, requiring a new part. The diaphragm is one of the more expensive soft parts to replace.
Drain pump filter is the single most common service call fix
The drain pump filter accessible from the front lower panel catches the majority of foreign objects that cause 5E (drain) and LE (leakage) errors. Coins, hair pins, underwire from bras, buttons, and cotton lint are the most common culprits. Always check and clean this filter before condemning any drain pump component. Many service calls can be resolved by the homeowner cleaning this filter.
Freezing is a major failure cause — check in winter for multiple error types
Freezing in winter can trigger 4E (water supply), 5E (drain), OE (overflow), tE1 (temperature sensor), and LE (leakage) errors. When diagnosing any of these errors in winter, always check for frozen water in supply lines, drain hose, and internal hoses. Use a hair dryer to defrost. Consider recommending the customer relocate the unit to a warmer location if the washer is in an unheated space.
Water level sensor hook is fragile — use gentle elasticity to remove
The hook-type water level sensor must be removed using the elasticity of its hook — pushing slowly in the direction of the arrow. Imposing too strong a force will damage the hook mechanism. After removal, the sensor only reattaches properly when inserted into the square hole until you hear a click. Always drain water by running spin cycle before reconnecting the sensor.
