Error Code HC

Your dryer isn't heating properly or is overheating

Critical

Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue

Also displayed as: HC

What This Means

Clogged lint filter restricting airflow; Restricted exhaust vent system causing heat buildup; Thermistor malfunction reading incorrect temperature; Thermostat failure not cycling heater properly; Heater element malfunction

What actually causes this:

Most often caused by a clogged exhaust vent that traps hot air inside the dryer, or the heating element has burned out.

First Thing to Check

Check your exhaust vent — disconnect it from the back of the dryer and look for lint buildup inside.

How to Fix

  1. 1

    1. Clean the lint filter thoroughly

  2. 2

    2. Inspect exhaust vent system for restrictions, lint buildup, or blockages

  3. 3

    3. Check outside exhaust hood damper — ensure it opens and closes freely

  4. 4

    4. Measure thermistor resistance: should be 10K ohms at 25 degrees C (77 degrees F)

  5. 5

    5. Check thermostat resistance: should be less than 1 ohm (infinity means replace)

  6. 6

    6. Check heater resistance: DUAL heater — 13 ohms (PIN 2-3), 34 ohms (PIN 1-2)

  7. 7

    7. If all components test normal, enter line test mode (HC4) for further diagnosis
