Defrosting failure — defrost sensor did not reach 41°F (5°C) within 80 minutes

Moderate

How to Fix

  1. 1

Inspect door gasket for damage or gaps. If damaged, replace door gasket.

  2. 2

With power off, measure defrost heater resistance at CON9 pins 5-13 (TEST MODE 1). Expected: 42-50 ohm (combined). If heater resistance is not 42-50 ohm, check Fuse-M continuity (should be 0-0.1 ohm); if Fuse-M is open, replace Fuse-M.

  3. 3

Individual heater resistances: Sheath heater (1) = 62-70 ohm; Defrost heater (2) = 144-167 ohm. Measure each individually if combined reading is wrong.

  4. 4

Measure defrost sensor (FD-SNR) resistance at CON8 pins 26-25. Expected ~22k at room temp per table. If open or wildly out of range, replace defrost sensor.

  5. 5

Enter TEST MODE 3 (press test button 3 times) to force defrost. Check heater voltage at CON9 pins 5-13. Expected: 112V-116V AC. If voltage is not present, replace main PCB.

  6. 6

Enter TEST MODE 1 (press test button 1 time). Check heater voltage at CON9 pins 5-13. Expected: 0V (heater off in compressor mode). If voltage is not 0V, replace main PCB.

  7. 7

If heater voltage is correct in both modes and heater/fuse resistance is correct, check drain tube for blockage and clear it.
