Freezer Defrost Heater Error — defrost sensor has not reached 41F/5C within 80 minutes of defrost start

Moderate

Address soon - your appliance may not work properly

What This Means

Failed door gasket (air infiltration causes frost buildup requiring extended defrost); Open or failed Fuse-M (thermal fuse); Open or failed defrost heater (sheath heater); Failed defrost sensor reading below spec; Main PCB not supplying voltage to heater

How to Fix

  1. 1

Check the door gasket for damage or poor seal

  2. 2

Check loose connection in defrost control part connector

  3. 3

Measure resistance of Fuse-M (pins 1-2): normal = 0-0.1 Ohm; if infinite = disconnected, replace Fuse-M

  4. 4

Measure resistance of defrost heater (sheath heater): normal = 34-42 Ohm; if other = change Fuse-M

  5. 5

Measure resistance of defrost sensor: normal = approx 21 Ohm at operating temp; if other = go to step 5

  6. 6

Enter Test Mode 3 by pressing test button 3 times (display shows 33 33)

  7. 7

Check for loose connection at CON3

  8. 8

Check voltage between Brown to A (line) wires at CON3: 112-116V = go to step 5; 0V = replace Main PCB

  9. 9

Release test mode by pressing button once (display returns to normal)

  10. 10

Check voltage between Brown to A at CON3 again: 0V = explain to customer (normal, heater not energized outside defrost); 112-116V = replace Main PCB
