Your dryer isn't heating properly or is overheating
Critical
Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue
Also displayed as: HC
What This Means
Compressor overheating due to restricted airflow; Thermistor 2 reading abnormal; Condenser clogged or dirty; Fan motor failure reducing airflow over condenser
What actually causes this:
Most often caused by a clogged exhaust vent that traps hot air inside the dryer, or the heating element has burned out.
First Thing to Check
Check your exhaust vent — disconnect it from the back of the dryer and look for lint buildup inside.
Parts Involved

- 2
2. Check and clean the condenser
- 3
3. Verify fan motor operation
- 4
4. Check for restricted airflow through the heat pump system
- 5
5. If thermistor is within range and airflow is clear, check compressor
