Error Code HC
Your dryer isn't heating properly or is overheating
Critical
Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue
Also displayed as: HC
What This Means
Thermistor malfunction; PCB malfunction; Heater malfunction; Restricted vent system causing excessive heat buildup; Motor not working normally (detected in Smart Install mode)
What actually causes this:
Most often caused by a clogged exhaust vent that traps hot air inside the dryer, or the heating element has burned out.
First Thing to Check
Check your exhaust vent — disconnect it from the back of the dryer and look for lint buildup inside.
Parts Involved
How to Fix
- 1
1. Check the PCB and Thermistor connections
- 2
2. Check exhaust vent system for restrictions or blockages
- 3
3. Measure thermistor 1 resistance: should be 10KOhm at 25C (77F)
- 4
4. Measure thermistor 2 resistance: should be 238.231KOhm at 25C (77F)
- 5
5. Check thermostat resistance: should be < 1Ohm (infinity means replace)
- 6
6. Check heater resistance: DUAL heater -- 13Ohm between PIN 2-3, 34Ohm between PIN 1-2; SINGLE heater -- 10Ohm between PIN 1-3
- 7
7. If resistance is infinity on heater, replace heater assembly
