What This Means

Defrost heater open-circuited; Temperature fuse blown; Bimetal thermostat defective; Heater wire short-circuited; Connector disconnected at CN70

What actually causes this:

The temperature fuse blows when the freezer overheats during defrost, or the heater element burns out after years of use.

First Thing to Check

Remove the freezer evaporator cover and visually inspect the defrost heater — check for visible burn marks or broken wire at the temperature fuse.

How to Fix

  1. 1

    Disconnect MAIN PCB CN70 wire and measure resistance between CN70 pin 7 and pin 1

  2. 2

    0 Ohm reading indicates heater short circuit

  3. 3

    Infinite (∞) Ohm reading indicates open wire or blown temperature fuse

  4. 4

    Check bimetal thermostat continuity (Off: 140°F/60°C, On: 104°F/40°C)

  5. 5

    Run forced defrost to confirm heater activation
