Freezer defrost sensor failure

What This Means

Connector slipped out or open contact; Wire cut or short-circuited; Abnormal sensing temperature above 50°C or below -50°C

What actually causes this:

Thermistor fails from age, connector gets wet from refrigerant leak, or vibration breaks wiring

First Thing to Check

Verify CN30 pin 4 connector is fully seated and dry

How to Fix

  1. 1

    Check voltage between MAIN PCB CN30 #4 and #8 should be 4.5V~1.0V

  2. 2

    Inspect defrost heater circuit for continuity

  3. 3

    Measure sensor resistance (should be 5.11-5.65 KΩ at 23°C)

  4. 4

    Replace thermistor if defective
