3 technician insights for the Samsung RF34H9950S Series Refrigerators (2018)

Thermal Fuse — Most Common Defrost Failure

The one-time thermal fuse (230°F/110°C) on the freezer and Cool Select evaporator heaters is the single most common cause of defrost failure errors (21E, 22E). It cannot be reset — once blown, it must be replaced. Always replace it along with the bimetal, not just the heater element. If only the fuse is replaced without determining why it blew, it will blow again.

French Heater Behavior When Humidity Sensor Fails

When error 13E is active (humidity sensor failed), the French heater does not shut off — it operates in high-humidity mode (essentially always on). This is intentional to prevent condensation without a humidity reading. If a customer reports condensation appearing or disappearing in relation to the mullion area and 13E is also present, the humidity sensor failure is the cause.

Ice Maker Heater Burns — Safety During Service

The ice maker heater (120W) reaches temperatures that cause burns. When pressing the ice maker test button or manually ejecting ice during service, the heater activates. The manual explicitly warns: 'When the Ice Maker Heater is on, it may cause personal injury. So, take extra care.' Always allow the heater cycle to complete and the ejection arms to park at home position before touching internal ice maker components.
