Error Code HC

Your dryer isn't heating properly or is overheating

Critical

Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue

Also displayed as: HC

What This Means

Restricted vent system causing excessive heat buildup; Thermistor resistance out of range; Heater malfunction; Thermostat failure; PCB malfunction

What actually causes this:

Most often caused by a clogged exhaust vent that traps hot air inside the dryer, or the heating element has burned out.

First Thing to Check

How to Fix

  1. 1

    1. Check the PCB and thermistor

  2. 2

    2. Check exhaust vent system for restrictions or blockages

  3. 3

    3. Measure thermistor resistance: should be 10K Ohm at 25 deg C (77 deg F)

  4. 4

    4. Check thermostat 1 resistance: should be < 1 Ohm (infinity means replace)

  5. 5

    5. Check thermostat 2 resistance: should be < 1 Ohm (infinity means replace)

  6. 6

    6. Check thermostat 3 resistance: should be < 1 Ohm (infinity means replace)

  7. 7

    7. Check heater resistance: [SINGLE] 10 Ohm (PIN 1-3); [DUAL] 13 Ohm (PIN 2-3) and 34 Ohm (PIN 1-2)

  8. 8

    8. If resistance is infinity on any heating component, replace that component
