What This Means

Defrost heater housing separated; Heater contact error or disconnection; Heater short circuit; Temperature fuse error (bimetal); Defrost not completing within 70 minutes

What actually causes this:

The defrost heater burned out or the safety thermostat tripped and will not reset

First Thing to Check

Check for heavy ice buildup on the back wall or bottom of the freezer — this confirms a defrost problem

How to Fix

    1. Use self-diagnostic function to check error before power off

  2. 2

    2. Use manual defrost (Fd mode) via test mode

  3. 3

    3. Check defrost sensor temperature — should reach above 53.6°F (12°C) for freezer

  4. 4

    4. Measure F DEF heater resistance at CN72 #7 (Brown) to #3 (Orange) — should be 66/240 ohm ±10%

  5. 5

    5. Check for 0Ω (heater short) or ∞Ω (wire/bimetal open)

  6. 6

    6. If heater is normal, check relay and replace PCB if needed
