What actually causes this:

Defrost heater element burned out or thermostat stuck

First Thing to Check

Check convertible zone for excessive ice buildup on evaporator vents

How to Fix

  1. 1

    1. Power off refrigerator and wait 5 minutes

  2. 2

    2. Separate Main PCB CN70 connector from PCB

  3. 3

    3. Measure resistance between CN70_1-7 and 1 — should be 63 ohms ± 7% (230 ohms ± 7% depending on input power)

  4. 4

    4. If 0 ohms: heater is shorted

  5. 5

    5. If infinite ohms: heater or bimetal is open — needs replacement

  6. 6

    6. If resistance is correct: check bimetal thermostat function
