What This Means

Defrost sensor connector loose or disconnected at CN20; Sensor wire damaged or broken; Defective defrost sensor (DTN-C502)

What actually causes this:

The sensor that tells the board when the freezer evaporator has fully defrosted is faulty or unplugged, which can cause ice build-up over time.

First Thing to Check

Remove the freezer evaporator cover and confirm the defrost sensor connector is firmly plugged in.

How to Fix

    Check Main PCB CN20 connector is fully seated

  2. 2

    Measure voltage between CN20 PIN 6 and PIN 8; should be 4.5V to 1.0V

  3. 3

    Compare voltage to temperature table

  4. 4

    Check sensor model: THERMISTOR DTN-C502, spec 5.0 kΩ at 25°C (77°F)

  5. 5

    Replace sensor if out of spec
