What This Means

Connector slipped out or open contact; Wire cut or short-circuited; Defective defrost thermistor; Bimetal open or defective; Thermal fuse blown; Defrost heater element open

What actually causes this:

The heating element that defrosts the freezer coils has failed or lost electrical connection

First Thing to Check

Check if frost is visibly building up on freezer coils inside the freezer compartment

How to Fix

  1. 1

    1. Remove MAIN PCB CN70 and CN77 connectors from the MAIN PCB

  2. 2

    2. Read continuity between BROWN and ORANGE wires

  3. 3

    3. Heater resistance between CN70 #5 (BRN) and CN77 #3 (ORG) should be 260 ohm +/- 10%

  4. 4

    4. If 0 Ohm, check for heater short

  5. 5

    5. If infinity Ohm, check if wire, thermal fuse, or bimetal is open
