Freezer defrost heater is not functioning or overheating
Critical
Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue
Also displayed as: F7 LED blink
What This Means
Defrost heater housing separation; Contact error at heater connector; Heater wiring disconnection; Short circuit in heater element; Temperature fuse failure; Defrost cycle does not complete (heating over 80 minutes)
What actually causes this:
Heating element burns out from power surges or the thermal fuse blows to prevent overheating
First Thing to Check
Verify the refrigerator is defrosting properly and check if ice is building up excessively in the freezer
Parts Involved
How to Fix
- 1
Disconnect MAIN PCB CN70 wire from PCB
- 2
Measure resistance between CN70 Brown and CN70 Gray wires
- 3
Normal resistance should be 63Ω ± 7% (varies with input voltage, may be 230Ω ± 7%)
- 4
0Ω indicates heater short circuit
- 5
∞Ω indicates wire open or temperature fuse failure
- 6
Verify heater element is warm during defrost cycle
