Error Code FREEZER-DEFROST-ERROR
Freezer defrost heater or its safety components have failed
Critical
Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue
Also displayed as: F and R blink (defrost heater error pattern)
What This Means
Open defrost heater element; Blown thermal fuse (228-230°F / 109-110°C); Open bimetal (tripped at 140°F / 60°C, resets at 104°F); Short circuit in heater wiring
What actually causes this:
The heater that melts frost off the freezer evaporator coils has burned out or a safety cutout has blown, meaning frost will build up until the freezer stops cooling.
First Thing to Check
Look inside the freezer — if there is a thick layer of ice on the back wall/evaporator cover, the defrost system has failed.
Parts Involved
How to Fix
- 1
Disconnect MAIN PCB CN20 connector
- 2
Measure resistance between CN20-'6' ↔ CN20-'8': should be 63Ω (230V) or 63Ω (for 120V model) ± 7%
- 3
0Ω = heater short circuit; ∞Ω = heater or bimetal open circuit
- 4
Also check F-DEF heater directly: CN70 '5' (BRN) ↔ CN71_1 '5' (BLK), expected ~63Ω ± 7%
- 5
Must power off refrigerator before measuring resistance
