Error Code HC
Your dryer isn't heating properly or is overheating
Critical
Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue
Also displayed as: HC
What This Means
Thermistor fault (out of range resistance); Restricted exhaust vent system causing heat buildup; Heater malfunction; Thermostat failure; Main PCB fault
What actually causes this:
Most often caused by a clogged exhaust vent that traps hot air inside the dryer, or the heating element has burned out.
First Thing to Check
Check your exhaust vent — disconnect it from the back of the dryer and look for lint buildup inside.
Parts Involved
How to Fix
- 1
1. Check the PCB and thermistor connections
- 2
2. Measure thermistor resistance: should be 10K ohm at 25 degrees C (77 degrees F)
- 3
3. Check thermostat resistance: should be < 1 ohm (infinity means replace)
- 4
4. Check heater resistance: DUAL heater - 13 ohm (PIN 2-3), 34 ohm (PIN 1-2); SINGLE heater - 10 ohm (PIN 1-3)
- 5
5. Inspect exhaust vent system for blockages or restrictions
- 6
6. Replace faulty component based on resistance test results
