Error Code 84
Compressor motor is locked up and won't turn
Critical
Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue
Also displayed as: 84C
What This Means
Compressor piston or rotor mechanically jammed; Liquid slugging (refrigerant/oil mixture preventing rotation); Internal mechanical failure; Inverter not providing adequate drive current; Low input voltage preventing sufficient motor current
What actually causes this:
Compressor internal mechanical failure or frozen refrigerant
First Thing to Check
Listen for buzzing or clicking sounds from the compressor
Parts Involved
How to Fix
- 1
1. Check input voltage at power cord — should be approximately 115V AC
- 2
2. If voltage is normal, check inverter DC 15V output — must be at least 13.5V
- 3
3. Check solder joints on Inverter PCB
- 4
4. Listen for compressor mechanical sounds — grinding indicates internal damage
- 5
5. Check compressor power connectors are seated properly
- 6
6. If all power and inverter checks are normal, compressor is mechanically failed
