Error Code HC
The water heater or its temperature sensor has a problem.
Critical
Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue
Also displayed as: HC
What This Means
Washing heater short-circuited or wire disconnected; Washing heater in tub has contact error or temperature sensor fault; Temperature sensor at center of dry heater fault; Steam function fault; Freezing in winter season
What actually causes this:
The heating element has burned out or cracked, or the temperature sensor attached to it has failed.
First Thing to Check
Try running a cold-water-only cycle. If that works without error, the heater or its sensor is the issue.
Parts Involved
How to Fix
- 1
1. Check heater resistance: 25.19 to 27.84 Ohm across both terminals
- 2
2. Check voltage on both terminals of heater while washing
- 3
3. Check the overheating sensor of the dry heater (or air wash heater)
- 4
4. For HC2: the red temperature sensor at center of dry heater may have tripped — press button at center lightly to reset
- 5
5. If temperature sensing is unstable due to degradation, replace temperature sensor
- 6
6. For HC2: check steam heater, replace if faulty
