The heater got dangerously hot because there was no water in the drum.

Also displayed as: HC1

What This Means

Water level sensor operated without water due to freezing; Temperature sensor at bottom of heater detected 100-150C; Heater activated with no water in tub

What actually causes this:

The water supply froze in winter, so the heater turned on with an empty tub and overheated.

First Thing to Check

Check if your water supply pipes are frozen. If it is cold outside, feel the water hoses at the back of the washer — if they are stiff or icy, they are frozen.
