What actually causes this:
The dryer heater overheated (possibly from restricted airflow or a failing sensor) and the safety cutoff tripped.
First Thing to Check
Unplug the washer, wait 30 minutes for it to cool, then plug it back in and try again.

3. If temperature sensing is unstable from degradation, replace temperature sensor
