Fridge compartment defrost heater or protection device has failed

Critical

What This Means

Open fridge defrost heater; Open bimetal protector; Blown thermal fuse; Wiring disconnection; Heater short circuit

What actually causes this:

The heater that clears frost from the fridge evaporator is not working, which will cause excessive ice buildup over time

First Thing to Check

Power off and check resistance at CN70 pin 5 to pin 1 — 132 ohm is expected

How to Fix

  1. 1

    Separate CN70 wire from PCB

  2. 2

    Measure resistance between CN70 pin 5 (WHT) and CN70 pin 1 (BLK); should be 132 ohm ±7%

  3. 3

    Check bimetal continuity

  4. 4

    Check thermal fuse continuity
