Error Code 24
Freezer defrost heater circuit has an open or short fault
Critical
Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue
Also displayed as: Error 24
What This Means
Defrost heater element failed (open or shorted); Bimetal thermostat tripped and not resetting; Thermal fuse blown (109-110°C fuse); Wiring open between heater and PCB
What actually causes this:
The heater that melts frost off the freezer coils has failed, or its safety cutout has tripped, causing heavy frost buildup on the freezer evaporator.
First Thing to Check
Unplug the refrigerator and carefully remove the freezer evaporator cover to visually inspect the heater wire for breaks or burn marks.
Parts Involved
How to Fix
- 1
Disconnect MAIN PCB CN31, measure resistance at CN31-3 to CN31-4: should be 63 ohm (115V) or 230 ohm (230V) ±7%
- 2
0 ohm = heater short; infinite ohm = wire/bimetal open
- 3
Check bimetal continuity — bimetal opens at 140°F (60°C) and resets at 104°F (40°C)
- 4
Check thermal fuse (AC 250V 10A, 109-110°C) for continuity
