Error Code 86
Compressor inverter detected voltage too high to operate safely
Critical
Stop using immediately - risk of damage or safety issue
Also displayed as: Error 86
What This Means
Input AC voltage above 155V; Shorted resistors R501, R505, or R509 on Inverter PCB
What actually causes this:
Incoming power voltage was too high, or a resistor on the inverter board failed, causing a false reading.
First Thing to Check
Check that the refrigerator is on a proper dedicated 115V outlet and not on an extension cord.
Parts Involved
How to Fix
- 1
Check actual AC input voltage at outlet — should not exceed 125V
- 2
Check resistance of R501, R505, R509 on Inverter PCB (short or open indicates fault)
This Error Applies To
Samsung RF23M85 Series Refrigerators (2017) (2017–present)
